What 94 sign-ups for one webinar told us about the CQC evidence gap
4 min read
Wellbeing de la Vie planned a free session on what CQC inspectors ask about staff wellbeing for 40 people, and had to more than double capacity. What attendees said afterwards points to one specific, fixable gap.

The session
Wellbeing de la Vie ran a free, one-hour online session for GP practice managers, partners and PCN leads on what CQC actually expects under the Workforce Wellbeing & Enablement quality statement - the specific questions inspectors ask, what strong evidence looks like in practice, and the gap between having a wellbeing policy and being able to prove it is working.
The core message: CQC does not just want to see a wellbeing policy. It wants to see that a practice has listened, acted, recorded what it did, and reviewed whether it worked - and most practices attending could not yet show all four.
The demand told its own story
The session was planned for 40 places. Registrations reached 94, and capacity was expanded to 100 to accommodate the demand - more than double the original plan, for a single free session on one narrow part of the CQC framework.
That level of interest is itself a finding. It suggests a large number of practices know they are due a wellbeing conversation with CQC and are not confident about what to bring to it - not a small or niche concern.

Where practices say they most need to work
Attendees could select more than one area, so the figures do not sum to 100% - but one gap stood well clear of the rest.
- Evidence and records (65%) - turning questionnaires and reports into a record that shows the feedback loop was actually closed
- Getting inspection-ready (47%) - worked examples and CQC evidence documents
- Governance (35%) - named ownership, a review cycle, and reporting to partners
- Freedom to Speak Up (6%) - a Guardian in post with documented examples
“Great learning session, lots of new changes I wasn't aware of. Explained in an easy to understand method.”
What this means for the sector
The pattern here is not a lack of goodwill on staff wellbeing. It is that most practices are already listening and acting to some degree, but cannot yet show it in a form CQC will recognise as evidence - a policy in a folder is not the same as a documented listen, act, record, review cycle.
That is precisely the gap Wellbeing de la Vie's platform is built to close, without adding admin or sending staff another email to ignore. Every attendee left with a CQC Workforce Wellbeing checklist they could start using the same day.
